Beauty and the Beast is coming to Disney Plus tonight

Beauty and the Beast is one of Disney’s most classic animated films. It has iconic characters, catchy songs, and despite the less-than-great beginning with the whole “keeping Belle against her will” thing, it has a good lesson about not judging others by what they look like. It’s also one of only a couple of films that’s been successfully remade into a live action movie.

But while the 1991 animated version has been available to stream on Disney Plus, the live action version wasn’t streaming until now. The 2017 retelling of the animated classic starring Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Josh Gad, Kevin Kline, Ewan McGregor, Ian McKellan, Emma Thompson, Stanley Stucci, and Audra McDonald will finally be available to stream on Disney Plus tonight at 3 am EST or midnight PST.

The film is almost an exact recreation of the 1991 movie (just look at the first few scenes), but it does have a few differences. A couple of new characters were added including Maestro Cadenza played by Stanley Tucci, more of the Beast’s backstory is explored, and a four new songs were added that weren’t in the original.

Of the three most well-known Disney live action adaptations, the 2017 Beauty and the Beast made the most money at the box office with 1.26 billion. The 2015 Cinderella only made 542 million while the 2019 Aladdin made 1.05 billion. The casting along with the love and nostalgia for  this story is most likely what made it such a success.

Emma Watson as Belle was a brilliant casting choice and there is no one who, in real life, looks more like Gaston than Luke Evans.

And because of its success, we will also be getting a Gaston and Lefou Disney Plus prequel series sometime in the future. Luke Evans and Josh Gad have already signed on to reprise their roles. It will be interesting to see what those two were up to before the Beauty and the Beast storyline.

But while we wait for that series to come out, you can watch the film whenever you want as long as you’re a Disney Plus subscriber. Now you don’t have to buy the DVD, wait for it to come on television, or purchase it to stream on Amazon.
