Riverdale season 5: Lili Reinhart says the time jump will be 7 years

Riverdale season 5 time jump will be seven years
It’s well known that the teens of Riverdale will be teens no more in Riverdale season 5. Most fans assumed a five-year time jump was in order to catch the show up to Katy Keene, the recently canceled sister series/spinoff of Riverdale.
During a virtual appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Riverdale star Lili Reinhart shared some information about Riverdale season 5. As it turns out, the time jump will actually be seven years into the future, not just five.
That change will add a very different dynamic to the series, for sure. Reinhart is especially “psyched” about not playing a teenager anymore and getting to play an adult in the series.
Check out Reinhart’s interview with Jimmy Fall on The Tonight Show.
We still don’t know many details about Riverdale season 5, the time jump, and how it will happen. But, we do know when it will happen.
The time jump should happen in episode 4, if all goes how we think it will. There are still three episodes of Riverdale season 4 that still have to be filmed. Those episodes will focus on prom, graduation, and of course, finding out who the Riverdale voyeur is and how it all connects to the rest of the season 4 story.
Then, the show is jumping ahead into the future. There are a few reasons that make sense to move the show so far into the future and go for a seven-year jump rather than a five-year jump.
First of all, it gives the characters a little bit more time to figure out who they are as adults. People who are 25 and have been out of college for a few years or have been working for several years probably have a much different perspective than those one year out of college.
The show can set up different relationships, marriages, and possibly add a few kiddos into the mix.
On top of that, it makes much more sense to stretch the time jump out a little further and beyond the events of the first season of Katy Keene, which was set a few years into the future. If Katy Keene had not been canceled, a five-year time jump to catch up to that show makes sense. Since Katy Keene was canceled, Riverdale can, hopefully, add some of those characters in the future and have the timelines match up.
Riverdale season 5 premiere and release date on Netflix
Riverdale season 5 is starting production soon! The cast will be returning to Vancouver in a few days and then quarantining, as Reinhart mentioned in the interview, for a few weeks before production gets underway.
Normally, we’d be expecting Riverdale season 5 to premiere in October 2020, but The CW has pushed back the premiere date for all of its fall shows. Riverdale season 5 will premiere in January 2021 and will run for its normal 22 episodes throughout the year.
We’re expecting Riverdale season 5 will be ending with the season finale sometime in July or August. The full season will be added to Netflix US exactly eight days later.
So, Riverdale season 5 should be on Netflix US by this time next year. We’ll let you know the official premiere date and release date when we find out!
You can watch Reinhart in her new Amazon Movie, Chemical Hearts, on Friday, Aug. 21.
