Stranger Things season 4 is not the final season of the Netflix show

Stranger Things season 4 will not be the final season of the most popular Netflix original series to date!

According to an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer confirmed the show will not end after season 4. That means Stranger Things is coming back for season 5 and, if we’re lucky, even more seasons on Netflix!

When asked specifically if Stranger Things season 4 would be the final season, Ross Duffer shared that the fourth season wouldn’t be the end, but he didn’t go as far as revealing if the show would end after season 5 or continue for more seasons.

Check out Ross Duffer’s very interesting answer, via THR:

"“Season four won’t be the end. We know what the end is, and we know when it is. [The pandemic] has given us time to look ahead, figure out what is best for the show. Starting to fill that out gave us a better idea of how long we need to tell that story.”"

That’s really good news for fans of the series. I think we all just want the Duffer brothers and creative team to tell the story they want to tell. I’m confident they won’t drag the series out forever.

Stranger Things season 5 is happening at Netflix

It’s been expected that Stranger Things season 4 would not be the final season since Netflix announced the show was coming back for season 4 last fall. Usually, Netflix shares that information when their big shows are renewed for their final seasons. We’ve seen it with Dead to Me, Ozark, Lucifer, and more.

David Harbour also referenced season 5 in an interview earlier this year.

Of course, for Stranger Things to come back for season 5, Netflix has to renew the series for another season. But, I think it’s common knowledge at this point that, with the Duffer brothers exclusive deal with Netflix, this show will last for as long as the Duffer brothers want this show to last. Netflix will always renew Stranger Things for another season if there’s more story to tell.

I’m hoping that Ross Duffer’s unwillingness to reveal any more information about the future of the series means that they’ve realized that they can’t pack all the story into season 4 or season 5. Then, the show will have to be picked up for season 6, as well. That might be me just being a little greedy, but I don’t really care. I want as much Stranger Things as I can get!

Six seasons and a movie sounds quite nice, doesn’t it?

As mentioned in the interview, the Duffer brothers have been able to focus more on the future because of the season 4 production shutdown. The show is currently on hiatus after production stopped in March. It’s been reported that production will resume in September, but that has not been confirmed.

Depending on when production starts, we could be looking at a Stranger Things season 4 release date at the end of 2021, or it could be pushed back to 2022 if production is not able to get started anytime soon.

Stranger Things season 5 release date on Netflix

Obviously, Netflix has not announced anything about Stranger Things season 5, including information about the release date.

We just want fans to know that they shouldn’t expect Stranger Things season 5 to be added to Netflix anytime soon. The fifth season could be released on Netflix anywhere from late 2022 (at the very earliest, which is incredibly unlikely) to 2024 or beyond, at this point.

Everything depends on when Stranger Things season 4 wraps production and how quickly the creative team can get the next season ready to go.

We’ll let you know more about the new season when we find out. For now, celebrate the news that Stranger Things is coming back for season 5 on Netflix!
