Jensen Ackles to join The Boys season 3 cast in first post-Supernatural role

Jensen Ackles has announced his first major follow-up after 15-seasons on Supernatural, teasing a role in The Boys season 3 via Instagram.

Taking to Instagram, the Supernatural star dropped a not-so-subtle teaser video in which he noted he’s been wondering for a while what he’ll do once Supernatural finally ends this year. As it turns out, he’s now found the answer to that question in booking a role in The Boys season 3!

The move will reunite Ackles with Supernatural‘s series creator Eric Kripke, who also happens to be the creator and showrunner of the buzzy superhero drama. Responding to the casting tease via a statement via TVLine, Kripke gushed about the chance to work with Ackles once again through The Boys.

"“When I was a child, I had a crazy, impossible dream — to provide Jensen Ackles with gainful employment,” Kripke said in a statement. “I’m happy to say that dream has come true. Jensen is an amazing actor, an even better person, smells like warm chocolate chip cookies, and I consider him a brother. As Soldier Boy, the very first Superhero, he’ll bring so much humor, pathos and danger to the role. I can’t wait to be on set with him again, and bring a bit of Supernatural to The Boys.”"

In addition to showing some love for Ackles, Kripke also offered up details regarding who exactly Ackles will play in the show’s forthcoming third season. As revealed by Kripke, Ackles will play Solider Boy, a World War II soldier turned super celebrity with the abilities of agility, stamina and unarmed combat.

This will mark Ackles’s first major television gig after 15 seasons of playing Dean Winchester on Supernatural, which will come to a close this fall with its final seven episodes.

The Boys season 2 premieres Friday, Sept. 4 on Amazon Prime. A premiere date for season 3 has not yet been announced, but fans can catch Jensen Ackles in the final episodes of Supernatural this fall on The CW.
