Fans have loved The 100 since it premiered in 2014 for its complex characters, gritty storylines, and dystopian setting. Though many people are diehard fans of the series, there might be some key The 100 facts not everyone knows. If you’re curious to learn more, read on!

Loosely based on the novel series of the same name by Kass Morgan, the series chronicles the lives of 100 post-apocalyptic survivors who are sent from a space station to Earth in the last attempt to determine whether the planet is habitable or not.

With the show in its final season, here are 10 interesting The 100 facts.

1. The 100 and Game of Thrones have something in common.

David J. Peterson invented the fictional languages of Dothraki and Valyrian for Game of Thrones. He is also the one who developed the Trigedasleng language for The Grounders on The 100. Talk about a cool job!

2. Co-stars Eliza Taylor and Bob Morley are married in real life.

Eliza Taylor and Bob Morley star alongside each other on The 100 as Clarke Griffin and Bellamy Blake, respectively. On June 7, 2019, Taylor announced via Twitter that she and Morley had married.

According to GeekSpin, their romance took them by surprise, as they had always been just friends since the show began. Here’s what Taylor had to say about it:

"While sitting on the porch of his sister’s house while looking out over the farm we talked about the future, what we wanted our lives to be. We wanted all the same things. To live in the countryside, to have kids, to still pursue our dreams in LA while having a strong home base in Australia. And just as easily as that conversation came, so did the proposal. We said, ‘We want this life, we want it together, so let’s not waste any more time and get married.’"

3. Eliza Taylor never formally auditioned for the role of Clarke.

Series producers saw an audition tape Taylor had done for a different project several months earlier and asked her to come in and read for the part of Clarke. She ended up getting the part, and the rest is history.

4. The show was already in production before the books were published.

Usually, if a TV show is based on a book, the book comes out before the show begins production. Not with The 100! According to Ppcorn, the series began filming prior to the book by Kass Morgan being released.

5. In the books, Wells is one of the main characters.

When The 100 premiered, it seemed like Wells Jaha (Eli Goree) was going to be an integral part of the story. However, he quickly perished after the teens arrived on Earth. According to ScreenRant, he is a much more prominent character in the novels.

6. Many of the actors are much older than their characters.

Clarke is supposed to be 18 years old at the start of the series, but actress Eliza Taylor was 26 when she was cast in the role. The character of Bellamy is meant to be 23 years old at the beginning of the series, but Bob Morley was 31 when production began.

Similarly, Marie Avgeropoulos, who plays the teenage Octavia, was 28 when she was cast.

7. The pilot takes place in the year 2149.

The 100 takes place 97 years after a nuclear apocalypse destroys almost all life on Earth.

8. Clarke is named after sci-fi author Arthur C. Clarke.

Arthur C. Clarke is the author of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Other characters were also named for sci-fi authors as well. Octavia was named after award-winning novelist Octavia E. Butler, and Bellamy was named for utopian author Edward Bellamy.

9. The Ark has a different name in the books.

In the novels, The Ark is called The Colony.

10. The 100 is filmed in Canada.

Production for the series takes place in and around Vancouver, British Columbia.
