Netflix adds 36 new movies and shows on Saturday, August 1

August has arrived, and that means a ton of new movies and shows will be added to Netflix on the first of the month. While these new movies and shows might not all be new to you, there is no shame in rewatching an old favorite or checking out something you missed when it first came out.

Whether you’re looking to binge-watch a bunch of franchises, check out one of the best period movies ever made, or settle in for a few romance films, there are Netflix new releases for everyone on Saturday, Aug. 1.

When isn’t there a good time to have a Jurassic Park marathon? Dinosaurs are always entertaining, and with all three Jurassic Park movies on Netflix on Aug.1, you can binge-watch them as many times as you want.

If, for some reason, you’ve been living under a Jurassic rock for the past couple of decades, here is a short synopsis. The Steven Spielberg trilogy is about groups of scientists (depending on which movie you’re watching) heading to an island where dinosaurs are alive and well thanks to a cloning process. Things do not go well.

Maybe you’re more in the mood for a few heist films? Both Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen are available to watch starting Aug 1. While the first film, Ocean’s Eleven, isn’t on Netflix at the moment, you don’t have to watch that one to enjoy these. They may not be Oscar-worthy, but their fun movies to escape into when you’re bored.

The NeverEnding Story movies are also on Netflix on Aug. 1. Both the original The NeverEnding Story and the sequel, The NeverEnding Story 2: The Next Chapter are available. We know Dustin from Stranger Things will definitely be watching these with his very real girlfriend, Suzie.

Maybe you’re looking to watch (IMO) one of the best historical period dramas ever made. If so, A Knight’s Tale is a must-watch. Is it historically accurate? Absolutely not! But the soundtrack is epic and the story is heartfelt, inspiring, and hilarious. The film stars Heath Ledger as William Thatcher who pretends to be a knight and enters a jousting competition to make a name for himself and come up from a life of poverty.

The movie also features Paul Bettany as the best Geoffrey Chaucer that has ever been portrayed anywhere, Alan Tudyk as the loyal but sad Wat, Rufus Sewell as the evil Count Adgemar, Laura Fraser as the female blacksmith, Kate, who makes William’s armor, and Shannyn Sossaman as Jocelyn, Will’s love interest.

You can also check out a couple of romantic films. Both Remember Me and The Ugly Truth hit Netflix on Aug. 1. I say romantic because while The Ugly Truth is a rom-com, Remember Me is definitely not. No spoilers but…9/11 is part of the film so be prepared. Remember Me stars Robert Pattinson and Emilie de Ravin and The Ugly Truth stars Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler.
