Netflix reportedly renews The Umbrella Academy for season 3

If the reports are to be believed, The Umbrella Academy has been renewed for season 3 on Netflix.

According to a report from What’s on Netflix, The Umbrella Academy is coming back for a third season at the streaming service. The outlet has already reported a number of Netflix renewals before Netflix officially announced those renewals.

The second season of The Umbrella Academy is coming to Netflix on Friday, July 31. An early renewal would not be much of a surprise for those who pay close attention to the popular shows and movies on Netflix.

The Umbrella Academy is one of the best and most popular Netflix shows of the past few years. The second season will be one of the most-watched Netflix shows of the summer.

We also have to imagine there’s more source material on the way, and the series will be able to follow that path or forge its own path in season 3 and beyond.

Normally, Netflix waits to make renewal announcements until about one or two months after the release of a season. But, there are a number of reasons that the renewal has already happened. Netflix could have plans for this series that are predicated on the writers finishing the episode scripts as soon as possible.

It’s also possible that Netflix wants to get this series in the works as soon as possible because of the uncertainty of production due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Umbrella Academy season 3 release date on Netflix

Because of the pandemic, we have to assume The Umbrella Academy season 3 likely won’t be released on Netflix for at a year and a half. It could even be longer than that.

We waited about 18 months between the release of season 1 and season 2. We have to imagine that will be the case for the gap between season 2 and season 3, as well. And, that’s without the uncertainty with the pandemic.

I’m guessing we won’t see The Umbrella Academy season 3 on Netflix until 2022. That’s the best prediction we can make at this point.
