Outer Banks starring Chase Stokes has been renewed for season 2 at Netflix

Outer Banks is coming back for season 2 on Netflix! The streaming network just announced the news on social media with new key art for the season.

This renewal news isn’t surprising for anyone who watched the Netflix original series or anyone who pays attention to Netflix’s new Top 10 list. Outer Banks was one of the most-watched Netflix shows of the spring after its premiere on April 15.

According to a report from Deadline, Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Jonathan Daviss, Rudy Pankow, Madison Bailey, Charles Esten, Austin North, Drew Starkey, and Deion Smith will all return for Outer Banks season 2.

I don’t know why Netflix made us wait so long to find out that this show was coming back for season 2. I’m guessing it all had to do with the coronavirus and navigating a path through the pandemic. We were starting to get a little worried this show might be canceled!

Outer Banks season 2 is also moving some of production to the Bahamas, because of that season 1 ending, so that could be part of the reason the renewal took a little extra time than normal.

Outer Banks season 2 release date on Netflix: Update

Now, Outer Banks season 2 is officially happening we can look toward the season 2 release date on the streaming service. Unfortunately, it looks like we’re going to wait a long time until we see the new season on Netflix.

And, that’s largely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Production is pretty much grounded in the US and it will likely remain that way until the situation with the coronavirus is under control.

Under normal circumstances, we have to wait quite a while for new seasons of Netflix shows. Outer Banks season 2 would have been released in the summer of 2021, most likely, and I guess that’s still possible.

Because of the pandemic and the restrictions that will be placed on production, that’s looking increasingly unlikely. I’d guess we’ll see season 2, at the earliest, in fall of 2021 and it could be an even longer wait than that.
