Everything we know about The Handmaid’s Tale season 4 on Hulu
The Handmaid’s Tale season 4 has been delayed due to the pandemic. However, we know that it’s happening.
Soon enough, filming in and around Toronto will open. Regions around Toronto are already alerting locals to watch out for filming crews. That means The Handmaid’s Tale season 4 should start back up again soon.
To celebrate that, we’re looking at everything we know about The Handmaid’s Tale season 4 so far.
The Handmaid’s Tale season 4 release date
The season was originally going to premiere in fall 2020. That was the plan when filming was set to start in March and run throughout the spring.
With filming not happening until late summer at the earliest, we’re looking at a 2021 premiere date. Hulu hasn’t confirmed anything yet. Nor has Hulu confirmed how the show will be released for the fourth season.
Previous seasons saw weekly releases, but the third season had the first four episodes released at once and then a weekly release after that. The latter seems to be the way Hulu wants to do things right now with many big shows.
The Handmaid’s Tale season 4 cast
While the full cast hasn’t been confirmed, we know that there will be a number of returning faces. Elisabeth Moss will return as June/Offred/Ofjoseph/whatever name she is going by now. Moss is also making her directorial debut. It was her episode that was started and then halted at the start of the pandemic.
We will also see the following return:
- Yvonne Strahovski
- Amanda Brugel
- Ann Dowd
- Joseph Fiennes
- Samira Wiley
- O-T Fagbenle
- Max Minghella
- Alexis Bledel
- Bradley Whitford
- Nina Kiri
- Madeline Brewer
All of these actors were spotted in the teaser released, which includes scenes from the third episode of the season so far.
There have been no casting announcements for the season just yet.
The Handmaid’s Tale season 4 trailer
There is a teaser trailer out right now. This was released shortly after the confirmation that The Handmaid’s Tale season 4 would be delayed.
Some of the clips are from the season 3 finale, but there are some new clips. As the show was able to film for a couple of weeks before shutting down for the coronavirus pandemic, the clips will be from this episode. It was episode three, which is the episode Moss is directing.
Episodes are filmed out of order sometimes. In this case, it would be to allow Moss time to focus on directing and not have to manage that and scripts for other episodes at the same time.
The teaser is certainly exciting. It gives us a sense of the story, which involves Canada stepping up—or at least, those who were connected to June stepping up to help—and the handmaid’s creating a new Mayday in an attempt to save other children from Gilead.
The Handmaid’s Tale season 4 synopsis
No synopsis has been released yet. However, Hulu has shared a short snippet of what to expect:
Change never comes easy. Blessed be the squad.
According to Digital Spy, this season is bigger. It’s not all contained within houses like previous seasons, which has meant a few extra delays in the filming. It’s much harder to film on location than in a studio! It certainly sounds like a fun season to watch play out.
We’ll update this when we have more information.
That’s all we know about The Handmaid’s Tale season 4 so far! We’ll let you know more about the new episodes when we find out.
