The Friends reunion is still happening, but when will it air on HBO Max?
Friends fans have been anxiously awaiting more news on the promised Friends reunion special on HBO Max.
All six of the original cast members, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry, agreed to do a reunion show for HBO Max. Then the pandemic hit and ruined all the plans for this and so many other things.
HBO Max had announced earlier in 2020 that it would be filming a Friends reunion. This wouldn’t be a traditional episode, but it would be interviews with the cast members.
The shooting of the reunion was scheduled in March and then was delayed until May and then again until August. David Schwimmer told Jimmy Fallon, on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, that the cast will be evaluating things in the next couple of weeks to see when it will be safe for everyone involved to film.
The way I see it, this can quickly be done in the style of Josh Gad and his Reunited Apart series. Get the cast of Friends together, get a host, and film it, somehow. It was rumored at one time to be Ellen DeGeneres.
If they do film the reunion in August, there’s a good chance we could see it on HBO Max this fall, like September or October. There should be a few months of a gap in between the taping and the release to start to hype up the release.
This would be very easy to do, and people would LOVE HBO Max for bringing this together during this time. I think we all could use something like this to look forward to.
Friends is now streaming on HBO Max. The streaming service shocked the streaming world when it reportedly paid $425 million for the streaming rights to Friends. This series was second only to The Office as the top streamed series on Netflix when it was available.
