Canceled Netflix shows: Marvel’s Daredevil
Marvel’s Daredevil was one of the first awesome Netflix shows. The series premiered way back in 2016.
Daredevil was praised for being what the MCU movies were not, a gritty, street-level vigilante story. The action sequences and fight scenes were incredible, and while the story lagged at times over the 13 episodes of the first season, it was clear the Netflix-Marvel partnership had something there.
Charlie Cox stars in the series as Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, along with Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Rosario Dawson, Vincent Denofrio, and more. Jon Bernthal joined the series in season 2 as Frank Castle/The Punisher, which led to The Punisher spinoff at Netflix.
Two more seasons of Daredevil were released on Netflix, along with The Defenders, which was the miniseries that brought all the Netflix-Marvel shows together.
Netflix canceled all the Marvel shows after Daredevil season 3, while everyone was hoping we’d see Daredevil season 4.
It’s such a bummer Netflix canceled Daredevil. There was so much story to tell (and epic fight sequences), but we’ll never get to see them on Netflix.
There’s hope that Disney and Marvel will come together to bring Daredevil and the rest of the Marvel characters into the MCU. Even if that happens, it won’t have the same feel as the Netflix series.
Canceled Netflix shows: Marvel’s Luke Cage
Along with Daredevil, Marvel’s Luke Cage is another series that should have been saved at Netflix.
Starring Mike Colter, Luke Cage tells the story of the Power Man, the unwilling (don’t-call-him) hero who tries to save Harlem from the Stokes and Dillard family.
The first season of Luke Cage was really, really good. Alfre Woodard, Theo Rossi, Mahershala Ali, Simone Missick, Erik LaRay Harvey, and Rosario Dawson rounded out this great cast. The first season was one of the most-watched Netflix shows at the time.
The second season was also good, but it probably didn’t generate the viewership that the first season did.
Then, just like that, Netflix canceled the series, and the other Netflix-Marvel shows came to an end shortly after.
It’s such a bummer that Luke Cage was canceled. I really wish Netflix found a way to save these shows, especially Luke Cage.
Hopefully, Disney and Marvel find a way to bring Luke Cage back into the MCU in the near future.
