Disappointing Netflix Shows: V Wars
V Wars is another Netflix show that failed to live up to the hype. The series premiered on Netflix in December 2019.
The series tells the story of a vampiric outbreak in the United States. Dr. Luther Swann, a scientist, tries to find a cure, while his best friend becomes the leader of the vampires.
V Wars had everything it needed to succeed on Netflix, or so it seemed. It had an excellent cast led by The Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder and Adrian Holmes. The Netflix series is based on the graphic novels of the same name by Jonathan Mayberry. The cast is there, and the source material is there.
But, V Wars was canceled after one season on Netflix. So, what went wrong?
For me, this series had so much promise. Everyone loves a good vampire story, and this show could have been so good. I think it came down to the execution of the story and scale. The series tried to make it seem like this disease was a huge problem, infecting the masses in the US, and creating this major problem for the US government.
During the season, though, I never really felt like the show established the scope of the outbreak. Was the story supposed to be about the government’s response to vampires, or was it a human interest story, about a man trying to save his kid?
The show tried to do both things, and it didn’t do either very well.
I enjoyed some aspects of the series, and I was hoping it would be renewed for season 2 to work out some of the kinks. Unfortunately for fans, the series was never given that opportunity.
