The Crown renewed for sixth and final season at Netflix
Great news for fans of The Crown, Netflix announced that the series would go on for six seasons instead of ending with the fifth season. The Crown creator Peter Morgan feels there is more of a story to tell in this series. Netflix announced that Morgan has decided to extend the series to a sixth season.
Previously it was announced that The Crown would end with its fifth season. But, six months later, we get the great news that the series will be extended for a sixth season. Morgan told Deadline:
"“As we started to discuss the storylines for Series 5, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons. To be clear, Series 6 will not bring us any closer to present-day — it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail.”"
The Crown season 4 release date
Although the fourth season did wrap filming before the shutdowns occurred, we haven’t received a firm release date for the newest season. It has been reported that it will still happen this year.
The Crown has followed the British Royals starting in 1947, and in season three they ended in 1977. In addition to all of the changes to the royal family during those years, the series has undergone cast changes to allow for the aging of the characters.
The Crown season 4 casting news
Season four will focus on the late 70s and early 80s. In the fourth season, we can look forward to the return of Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth, Tobia Menzies as Prince Philip, and Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret.
We will also see the introduction of Princess Diana, who will be portrayed by Emma Corrin. Corrin looks like a replica of the late princess. When paired with Josh O’Connor, who plays Prince Charles, the likeness of this couple to the actual people is uncanny.
The Crown season four will also introduce Margaret Thatcher, who will be portrayed by Gillian Anderson.
Another exciting bit of news for fans is that Claire Foy, who played the Queen in seasons one and two, will be making a cameo in a season four flashback scene.
It is exciting to know that we have season four to look forward to this year, as well as two additional seasons in this series. The Crown has given us an excellent historical look into the Royal family that many seem very intrigued with.
We will be sharing any new information on The Crown, so keep watching for that.
