Will the new Unsolved Mysteries get a host and/or update episodes?

If you just tuned in for new episodes of Unsolved Mysteries on Netflix, you may have noticed there is no host, which is unlike previous seasons of the series.

While the response to the series has been good, fans have a few questions. Will there be a host in the future? Will we ever see updates on these cases?

It appears Unsolved Mysteries fans want someone to host and narrate the new episodes of the new season of the series just released on Netflix. Robert Stack, the original and most well-known host, passed away in 2003.

Will there be a host of Unsolved Mysteries?

Should there be a host? It’s a conversation starter, for sure, but could anyone replace Stack?

Well, of course not. Some shoes are just too big to fill and some acts are just too tough to follow.

To be fair, Unsolved Mysteries had other hosts. Before it became a regular series, it was a series of seven specials in 1987. Raymond Burr hosted the pilot. Karl Malden hosted the next two, and Stack hosted the other four.

Then, when it became a weekly series in 1988, Stack hosted it solo until Virginia Madsen joined him as a co-host for a season in 1999. And, of course, Dennis Farina narrated the Spike reboot from 2008-2010.

However, would you be surprised to learn it was among the tough decisions the producers made when deciding how to format the Netflix reboot of Unsolved Mysteries?

That’s what co-creator Terry Dunn Meurer, who was one of the executive producers of the original Unsolved Mysteries (1988-2008), told Entertainment Weekly in an exclusive interview.

"“I think that we thought long and hard about this and it was a tough decision to make. At this point, we feel like the decision was the right one. There’s nobody that could really replace Bob.”"

So, for now, it appears there will be no host for any future episodes of Unsolved Mysteries. We’ll keep you posted on that development.

Will there be any Unsolved Mysteries updates?

In addition to the show going host-less for the Netflix series, another thing they may not do is update episodes. Online, fans have been discussing the need for updates to see how these stories come to an end or if there are other developments for the cases.

There are a couple of reasons why they wouldn’t update episodes, including streaming services and social media. That’s another thing that Meurer mentioned in the EW interview.

Depending on how the response to the series, there’s a chance we could see a special update episode down the road, according to the interview.
