We have some good news and bad news for Dead to Me fans. Let’s start with the good news first: Dead to Me season 3 is officially happening at Netflix!

Unfortunately, Dead to Me season 3 will be the final season of the Netflix show starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini.

TV Line was the first to report the news of the renewal and end of the Netflix series.

This is obviously bittersweet news for fans. It’s great we get to see another season of what I consider to be one of Netflix’s best shows yet. And, on the other hand, it’s sad that the series will be ending after a few more episodes.

Then again, how much longer could this show go on with the stakes rising with every episode? Overall, I think this is probably a good decision to end the series sooner rather than later. It just makes sense to see this story through and not drag it out for a long time.

Dead to Me season 3 release date on Netflix

The TV Line report did not mention when the Dead to Me season 3 release date will be, but it’s likely too early to know at this point.

The first two seasons of Dead to Me were released in May of the last two years, so it’s safe to assume Netflix would want to release the new season in May of 2021. There are several reasons for doing this.

First, most Netflix shows are released about a year apart. It’s not exact by any means, but for 10-episode “comedies” like Dead to Me, we can expect new episodes to land about 12 months after the previous season.

Second, Netflix wants to roll out Dead to Me season 3 by May to make sure Linda Cardellini, Christina Applegate, and the rest of the cast and crew are eligible for the Emmys. Usually, shows have to air before May 31 to be eligible for that year’s Emmys.

For now, we’re expecting to see Dead to Me season 3 in May 2021.

Unfortunately, there are a few things working against a May release date for the final season. It’s possible that the COVID-19 pandemic, which has grounded production around the world, could impact that release date. If filming on Dead to Me season 3 is delayed, there’s a chance the release date would be pushed back to summer or fall 2021.

I’m guessing we won’t see the final season until summer or fall 2021. That’s the way things look right now.
