It’s going to be a weird summer for kids since many of the usual outdoor and public activities aren’t options for the foreseeable future. Naturally, Netflix will be the perfect way to take up time for an afternoon, and July brings the premiere of a brand-new animated adventure film the whole family can watch together. Animal Crackers centers on the Huntington family (John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Emily Rose Taylor), who turns to the powers of a storied, magical box of animal crackers to save their circus that has seen better days from being overhauled by their evil uncle Horatio P. Huntington (Ian McKellan).

Animal Crackers comes from directors Scott Christian Sava and Tony Bancroft, the latter of which has worked as an animator for some of the most famous animated movies, such as Aladdin and Mary Poppins Returns. The film was initially intended to be released in 2017, when it premiered at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and was later released in China in 2018. However, distribution fell through in the United States until Netflix stepped in this year. Since the kids won’t have the chance to enjoy some of summer’s best offerings on the big screen, another at-home movie premiere is just the ticket with Animal Crackers on July 24.
