20th Century Studios’ X-Men movies are finally coming to Disney Plus in Summer 2020

Fox’s X-Men movies are finally coming to Disney Plus! After months of speculation, Disney Plus has confirmed four of the fan-favorite superhero films will drop between July and September 2020 as part of the newly announced Summer Movie Nights!

Although Disney Plus is home to several X-Men animated series including X-Men: The Animated Series — which remains the gold standard for superhero adaptations to many — the service has been seriously lacking on the live-action side with not a single film from the Fox franchise available to stream on the service.

Fortunately, that’s all about to change.

With movie theaters across the nation closed, Disney Plus is looking to help keep viewers entertained throughout the summer with the arrival of new movies every Friday in July and August. As part of the Summer Movie Nights event, Disney Plus has confirmed the arrival of X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men Apocalypse, The Wolverine, and the film that started it all: 2000’s X-Men.

When will the X-Men movies premiere on Disney Plus?

When it comes to its Summer Movie Nights schedule, Disney Plus has devised quite the interesting rollout plan for the X-Men movies.

The first film set to arrive on Disney Plus is X-Men: Days of Future Past, the ambitious 2014 blockbuster which brought together the cast of the original and modern franchises for an unforgettable crossover event. Days of Future Past will premiere on Friday, July 10 just one week before the arrival of X-Men: Apocalypse on Friday, July 17.

After spoiling fans with two back-to-back releases, fans will have to wait until Aug. 7 for the next film’s arrival but it should be worth the wait. Why? Because Aug. 7 brings with it the release of the original X-Men, the series which helped to introduce the characters to a new generation on the big screen and gifted us with the first of what would be a record-setting number appearances of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.

Speaking of Wolverine, Disney Plus will release 2013’s Jackman led spinoff The Wolverine as the final film in its Summer Movie Nights line-up on Friday, Sept. 4.

At this time, it remains unclear when or if Disney Plus will add the remaining X-Men movies to its catalog. Considering the summer months will welcome the arrival of some of the franchise’s most profitable titles, we can only hope the likes of X2, X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men: The First Class, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine will follow shortly afterward. (Due to its R-rating, it’s unlike Logan will release on Disney Plus.)
