The Stateless trailer is here and it’s going to be one intense series

When the images were released, we had a feeling Stateless would be somewhat difficult to watch. The Stateless trailer is now out, and it makes it clear that this is going to be one of the most intense shows of the year.

A six-part limited Netflix original, the series is focused on a group of people in a refugee camp in the Australian desert. It’s more than that, though. It’s a detention center, offering officials a place to find out who people are and whether they really deserve refugee status.

Some of the characters are those that you may be used to if you’ve watched Jack Ryan and similar shows. However, there are others that will make you think again about who people seem to be.

A search for a missing air hostess

One thing the trailer focuses on is the search for Yvonne Strahovski’s Sofie Werner. She’s an Australian air hostess who has only ever wanted love. Thinking she’s found that, she joins a religion, only to find out that it’s a cult. Now she needs to get away from the cult.

The problem is she doesn’t know who she can trust. Can she even believe those at this refugee camp will look after her or will they send her back to the camp? To protect herself, she hides her identity, but it raises suspicions with many people.

On top of that, her sister (who A Place to Call Home fans will recognize immediately) is looking for her. She knows the group she was last seen with, but they don’t seem concerned that Sofie has gone missing. Of course, that’s an act, right?

Does Sofie hold the key to blow the whole detention center open? After all, it’s clear that people are being held and beaten. There’s more to this camp than meets the eye and there are more camps like it around Australia. Is it time for secrets to be uncovered?
