Riverdale season 5 might start filming later this summer!

According to a report from Deadline, several shows that film in Vancouver, BC, are aiming to start production in the next few weeks and months. Riverdale happens to be one of those shows.

Deadline is reporting that Riverdale is aiming for a production start sometime in August or September. While other shows might be starting back up at the end of July and beginning of August, Riverdale likely won’t be one of those shows.

And, that’s because Riverdale season 5 has already been delayed until January 2021, at the earliest. There’s no rush to start filming season 5.

Normally, Riverdale would be getting ready to start production in July, but because of the coronavirus pandemic, TV and film production around the world has been shut down for months.

It should also be noted that this start date is probably the best-case scenario. There are still a lot of hoops that need to be jumped through to start production again. As the report notes, the various unions involved have to agree to all the safety measures that will be put in place to ensure the safety of the cast and crew and creative teams.

Based on what’s been reported about those guidelines, we’re probably going to see fewer romantic scenes with these characters, and we’ll also likely see fewer fight scenes. Any scene where actors and crew need to be within six feet of each other will have to be re-worked, or there’s going to be significant testing to ensure the cast and crew are healthy before filming those scenes.

Riverdale season 5 is shaping up to be a season jam-packed with action. The season is going to start out by putting the finishing touches on the storylines from the fourth season. We still have to find out who the voyeur is, and we’ll also get to see prom and graduation in Riverdale. Oh, and we still have to see how those Barchie scenes will impact the future of Bughead and Varchie relationships.

After that, things are going to get wild! Riverdale season 5 will feature a five-year time jump that will pick up with the main characters five years after high school. We don’t know who’s going to college or where they’re going or what. It’s going to be a great reset for the series as it moves into the future.

Because Riverdale season 5 premieres in January 2021, we’ll have to wait longer than usually to see the new season on Netflix US. It will likely be added to Netflix in July or August 2021, a week after the season finale airs.
