Stranger Things season 4 will reveal more about Hopper’s past

Jim Hopper’s backstory is a focus of Stranger Things season 4

Stranger Things season 4 will feature Hopper’s much more of his backstory.

I’m sure that any Stranger Things fan could go on and on about Jim Hopper. I mean, he has to be the best TV dad out there, right? He went through so much and did everything he could to keep Eleven safe and sound. Not only that, but he played a major role in getting to the bottom of everything that was going on in Hawkins.

With Stranger Things season 4 on the way, so much information is coming out about what we can expect in the new season. From bigger threats and scarier monsters to all-new characters to meet, there’s no telling what our heroes will face.

Of course, the ending of Stranger Things 3 led many fans to believe that Hopper was killed in an explosion caused by closing the gate with the Russians’ machine that they built underneath Hawkins’ Starcourt Mall. It goes without saying that there was a huge wave of relief and amazement that swept over fans of the show when it was revealed that Hopper was alive and supposedly imprisoned and/or working somewhere in Kamchatka, Russia.

As it turns out, Stranger Things 4 will “turn back the clock” in a way. According to TV Line, David Harbour, who plays Hopper, recently shared with Deadline that season 4 will share even more of Hopper’s backstory. The article even shared that we would get some insight into what was inside the moving boxes labeled “Vietnam” and “Dad” that Eleven found at Hopper’s cabin in season 2.

Harbour shared some comments about Hopper’s story in Stranger Things season 4 via TV Line:

"I’m really excited to let people see these really deep colors in him. Each season we see a different side of him. Last season was… a bit wackier, and I loved playing that. Now [in Season 4] he is painted in a bit of a darker palette; he’s able to express some of these really deep things that we’ve… hinted at with the boxes in Season 2."

We got a little bit of Hopper’s backstory with his daughter Sara in the first season and what happened to her. However, much of what happened in Hopper’s past remains a big mystery. I know I’m so excited to see these “deeper colors” in Hopper and learn about what he went through to get to where he is today and how it influenced the man he became.

Unfortunately, production on Stranger Things 4 has been affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and a lot of information about the show’s release remains uncertain. That being said, we’re eagerly looking forward to production resuming safely and wishing the best for the show’s cast and crew!
