Netflix just announced the Lucifer season 5 release date in a new teaser trailer. The new season premieres on Aug. 21, 2020.

And, by now, you have likely watched and rewatched the Lucifer season 5 teaser many times. You’re not alone! After months of waiting for new updates, it’s our latest obsession. But did you catch how the clip hints at a possibly season 6?

Not only does the teaser reveal the season 5 premiere date, but it also gives us a quick look at new footage, steamy footage, to be exact! It looks like Lucifer and Chloe will finally be intimate. That is, unless it’s another dream.

As much as we are looking forward to that, there’s something else we couldn’t help but notice! The Lucifer season 5 teaser isn’t presented or introduced as “the final season of Lucifer.” Could it be because this isn’t the final season?

Is Lucifer season 6 happening?

When Fuller House began to drop new images, teasers, and season info for season 5, it was all promoted as the “final season.” The same happened with 13 Reasons Why season 4 and other Netflix shows. This is even true for other final seasons across more streaming services and networks.

Yet, this new season 5 clip simply reads “season 5 part 1” along with the premiere date. Sure, there’s still part 2 once the first set of episodes go live. But still! Shouldn’t it be the beginning of the end?

On Aug. 22, when DC FanDome Virtual Experience presents new updates, which includes Lucifer, we’re hoping a season 6 announcement is revealed! It makes a lot of sense, especially with season 5 part 1 being released on Netflix just the night before this major event.
