Marisol Nichols, who plays Hermione Lodge, will return for Riverdale season 5

Hermione Lodge will be in Riverdale season 5 after all!

Marisol Nichols, who has starred as Hermione in Riverdale since the first season of the hit CW series, announced on Instagram that she’ll be back for Riverdale season 5 in a recurring role.

It was confirmed earlier this year that Nichols would not return for Riverdale season 5. Star Skeet Ulrich, who plays FP Jones II in the series, also planned to leave the series after season 4. That was until the coronavirus pandemic shut down production on season 4 and the season ended three episodes early.

Nichols and Ulrich were confirmed to come back for the first few episodes of season 5 to finish season 4’s stories, and then, they planned to leave the series. Now, that doesn’t seem like it will be the case for Nichols.

Riverdale season 5 release date delayed until 2021

It’s going to be a while until we see Nichols as Hermione Lodge again in Riverdale season 5. The CW bumped the premiere of the new season until January 2021. There is a fear among many in the industry that the fall shows like Riverdale would not have enough time to film all the new episodes during the coronavirus pandemic. And, that’s what bumped the season premiere to the midseason.

As of right now, it look like there will be 22 episodes in the new season, and Nichols will likely appear in a handful of those episodes as the season airs from January through July or August.

Riverdale season 5 is going to look a lot different than previous seasons, as well. After the first few episodes will reveal prom and graduation for many of the main characters, Riverdale will feature a five-year time jump to a time when Archie, Betty, Jughead, Veronica, Cheryl, and the rest of the Riverdale teens are in their early 20s and likely done with college or whatever happens in the next chapter of their lives.

That’s going to add a very interesting dynamic to the season, and I can’t wait to see it. I’m not saying the high school storylines got old or anything, but I really think the show can give itself a little more room to work in new storylines. I’m excited to see what happens next, and I’m excited Nichols will be a part of it!

Now, let’s hope we can convince Ulrich to return for most of season 5, as well!

We’ll let you know more about Riverdale season 5 as we find out. There’s hope that the show can start filming season 5 later this summer in Vancouver, but there are a bunch of things that need to happen before that can happen. So, we’ll just have to wait and see!
