Shadowhunters is another canceled show that should be saved at Netflix

Shadowhunters would be a great addition at Netflix if the series was revived

Would you like to see Netflix revive Shadowhunters? We would, too!

Earlier this week, Netflix Life published a list of five canceled shows that would make great Netflix revivals. Some of those shows are more likely to happen than others. Shadowhunters was an unfortunate omission from the list.

And, I don’t have a good excuse why! It just slipped my mind. I love Shadowhunters. The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare, which the TV series is based on, is an incredible series, and so far, we haven’t seen these stories get the TV and film treatment they deserve.

Shadowhunters ran for three seasons on Freeform between 2016 and 2019. The show came to an end with an extended third season. It still wasn’t enough.

Shadowhunters is available to stream on Hulu in the United States, but it’s available to stream on Netflix around the world. Netflix actually had a chance, multiple chances, to save the TV series, and there was some hope they would after the incredible #SaveShadowhunters fan campaign. In more unfortunate news, Netflix passed on Shadowhunters and couldn’t make it happen.

Hopefully, the streaming network will give the series another look and think about reviving the series.

Will Netflix actually save Shadowhunters? At this point, it seems rather unlikely. The streaming network had every opportunity to save this series, but they chose to pass. Why? We’ll probably never know, but I felt bad about leave Shadowhunters off the list and wanted to make up for it by giving the series its own place to shine.

There are many rumors about why Shadowhunters was canceled in the first place. Netflix had an output deal with Constantin Films, which produced the series, and the international streaming rights. There have been reports that Netflix backed out of that deal which, then, cut funding to the series, and Freeform, then, chose not to fund Netflix’s portion of production.

If that’s how it went down, it sort of means Netflix was partially responsible for the series getting canceled. Netflix didn’t bring the ax to Shadowhunters, necessarily, but it might have left Freeform out in the woods with no firewood.

Yes, Shadowhunters should have been included on that list. I’m sorry for the omission, Shadowhunters fans! I really didn’t mean any disrespect!

Here’s to hoping The Mortal Instruments gets the TV and film treatment it deserves in the future!
