Space Force starring Steve Carell is a must-watch on Netflix right now

The new Netflix comedy series Space Force is now available to stream on Netflix! Unfortunately, the reviews have not been very good.

By now, you’ve probably read that the Netflix series is not worth your time. I would like to reassure you and, hopefully, persuade you to watch this series and decided for yourself.

From Greg Daniels, the creator of The Office, and Steve Carell, who also stars in the series, Space Force is one of the most highly anticipated comedies yet. And, I highly recommend you give the new series a watch on Netflix this weekend. It’s actually quite funny if you don’t take the show to seriously.

The series tells the story of the sixth branch of the US Military, Space Force. Carell stars as the bumbling Gen. Mark Naird, who is the man chosen to lead the Space Force and put “boots on the moon.”

There are so many good actors in this series, including John Malkovich, Tawny Newsome, Jimmy O. Yang, Diana Silvers, Alex Sparrows, Fred Willard, Ben Schwartz, Noah Emmerich, Jessica St. Clair, Lisa Kudrow, Roy Wood Jr., and so many more.

And, that’s really the highlight of the series. There are so many good performers, and it’s fun to see them in all these weird, silly roles.

That’s my favorite thing about this series, especially right now. The stakes are so low for Naird and the Space Force, and the whole operation is just a joke. It’s silly and it’s mean to be fun. And, for most of the series, I think it was silly and fun.

The second episode of the series is so ridiculous and ludicrous, and it’s exactly the type of content I want with everything going on in the world.

With that said, some of the criticism of Space Force is warranted. It drags at times, and some of the jokes and storylines fall flat.

There are two things working against the series. First, expectations were way too high. I had sky-high expectations. The show was already being compared to Veep and The Office before it premiered.

If the bar is set at The Office, the best comedy series of the 2000s, and Veep, one of the best comedies and most decorated comedies of all time, Space Force was almost always going to underachieve.

Along with that, the characters feel too much like caricatures at times. That’s a valid criticism I’ve seen at several major outlets. It doesn’t work all the time, but it works some of the time and provides some good laughs. At least, I laughed at these characters and the jokes.

We don’t get a good sense, for most of the series, who these characters really are or what their motivations, their wants and their needs really are. Maybe we will learn more in further seasons, but I don’t necessarily think that we need to.

I really enjoyed the first season of Netflix’s Space Force. It was the low stakes, and sometimes low-brow, comedy I needed right now! I’m ready for Space Force season 2!
