Riverdale season 5 will likely be 22 episodes, a full season order

It’s going to be a long time until we see Riverdale season 5 on The CW and Netflix. When the new season does arrive, it’s expected to be a full season, which will likely be 22 episodes.

According to a report from Deadline, the Riverdale season 5 release date has been pushed back to January 2021, which means it will arrive on Netflix US in July or August later that year. The season, along with almost all new seasons of The CW shows, has been pushed back to January because the coronavirus pandemic.

There was some speculation that Riverdale season 5 would be a shorter season if it was pushed back to the midseason, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. Obviously, if production is unable to get started until much later this year or there are further developments with the pandemic, that plan for a full season could change.

We’ve learned a lot about the new season after the Riverdale season 4 finale aired.

It’s also been confirmed that the first three episodes of season 5 are the final episodes of season 4. The fourth season ended three episodes early because the coronavirus pandemic shut down production on the fourth season before the final three episodes were finished.

There are some major things that are happening in those episodes, including prom, graduation, and finding out who the mysterious voyeur is. It’s good that we get to see all those things happen in the new season. I was worried we see those things crammed into the season finale.

We also learned Riverdale season 5 will feature a five-year time jump after the third episode. The Riverdale youngsters are moving on for college and other things, and then they’ll likely be heading back to Riverdale. I’m hoping they solve some more mysteries!

It will be interesting to see how the time jump works. It’s worked well in other shows, and if there was a show where this would work well, it’s Riverdale. We need these characters to go away and then come back. We need that shared history to bring them back together.
