The Lovebirds premieres on Netflix on May 22

Since the trailer for The Lovebirds, starring Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani, debuted early this year, we have been excited to watch it. Of course, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the movie was no longer able to premiere in theaters on its original date, which would have been April 3, 2020.

At the same time, news surfaced to share that Netflix would be streaming the movie, instead. Sure, we had to wait a few weeks, but we knew this movie would be worth it.

What is The Lovebirds about?

The comedy-drama follows Jibran (Nanjiani) and Leilani  (Rae), a couple that is head over heels in love with each other. That is, until their relationship is put to the ultimate test.

After a series of unfortunate events, Jibran and Leilani become the prime suspects of a murder. Knowing they don’t have a chance if they go to the police, they decide to embark on a murder mystery to solve the crime themselves and prove their innocence. But will their relationship survive this?
