The Charmed season 3 premiere is set for January 2021
Charmed season 3 will air on The CW, but not for a while. The network has announced the new season is set to premiere in January 2021.
There’s one simple reason for the long wait and it’s got nothing to do with the ratings. The series is one of many that had to shut down production on the current season early due to the coronavirus pandemic. Filming can’t resume yet, so The CW is putting the shows on hold for now with tentative plans to bring them back in the New Year, according to TVLine.
There’s some great news for fans who hated the move to Friday nights. Charmed season 3 is moving out of the dreaded “death slot” and back onto Sunday nights. It’ll air at the later time of 9/8c behind Batwoman.
Supergirl is moving to the new midseason slot due to Melissa Benoist’s pregnancy. Fridays will be taken up with Penn & Teller: Fool Us and Whose Line Is It Anyway?
What isn’t clear is the number of episodes the season will have. Usually, programs that start in January are cut short to allow for the spring and summer shows to air. We usually get around 13-16 episodes. However, it’s possible that the coronavirus could change the usual cycle of programming pushing the fall shows into the summer months.
Charmed season 3 will pick up off the back of the big reveals in the abrupt finale. This wasn’t the intended way to end things but worked out to be a great cliffhanger. Fortunately, fans already knew the show was coming back for a third season when it aired.
There are plenty of questions about Harry’s feels for Macy and Julian’s possibility of being the second coming of “The Conquerer.” Then there are questions about whether Jimmy will work with the Charmed Ones against the Faction. This second season has certainly been stronger than the first and it’s exciting to see where the third season will take us.
We’ll have to wait a little longer than we’d hoped to find out. It will also mean a longer wait for the full season to drop on Netflix.
Charmed season 2 is now on Netflix to catch up.
