Percy Jackson series is finally happening at Disney Plus

Disney Plus is adapting Percy Jackson and the Olympians for a new TV series

After all these years, Percy Jackson is getting his own TV series at Disney Plus!

According to a report from Deadline, Disney Plus is making a Percy Jackson and the Olympians TV series. The series is based on Rick Riordan’s five-book series, starting with The Lightning Thief. 

Rick and Becky Riordan made the announcement on Twitter with a video. They also shared a statement via Twitter.

We don’t know much about the series yet, but in time, I’m sure we’ll find out the cast and release date on Disney Plus.

This is the best news I’ve seen in a LONG time. For those following Netflix Life for years, you might have seen us literally begging and pleading for some studio to start developing a Percy Jackson series. We just posted about Disney Plus making a Percy Jackson series in February!

Finally, finally, finally, it’s actually happening!

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is one of my favorite kids’ books series, and the Heroes of Olympus follow-up is even better! Disney should already start developing that series, as well, because there’s no doubt Percy J is going to be a smash hit for the streaming service.

Percy Jackson release date on Disney Plus

Disney has not announced the release date for the Percy Jackson series yet. There are still so many details that need to be revealed about this series, and many decisions have to made before the real timeline will be established.

Where things stand right now, I would be surprised to see any episodes of this series before the end of 2021. It’s going to take at least a year from now before the series is released. With all the uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, it seems likely that we could see an even bigger wait than that.

Ultimately, that’s more than okay with me! This is a show that needs to take its time to get it right. This world is so cool, and there’s so much that needs to be fleshed out in order to properly build the world so the rest of the Riordan-verse can be expanded to include Heroes of Olympus, The Gods of Asgard, and more!
