On My Block season 3 had one of the most satisfying and tragic season endings. With such a great finale, do we need a season 4?

Warning! This article will contain spoilers from all seasons of Netflix’s On My Block

Netflix’s series On My Block is an emotional roller coaster. Every one of the characters had moments that made us laugh, yell angrily at the screen, and curl up in a ball in bed with tissues. That may or may not be a personal story. Nonetheless, a lot goes on that will have anyone feeling things you wouldn’t expect from a show. It helps that each of the main characters had different burdens to bear.

Every time something happened you’d think, “There’s no way things can get worse” yet they did.

Jamal was dealing with insecurity issues from the start. Some of them he put on himself, others were caused by those closest to him. Monse’s mother committed suicide after being told off by Monse. Cesar’s inability to kill someone and being in a gang put everyone he loved in danger. It also caused the death of a friend. And Ruby was shot, which caused him to suffer from PTSD throughout the series. Season three ended and it looked like they would finally get a happy ending. We should have known better.

Season three of On My Block ends with the story jumping two years into the future. Each of the main characters are now different people and no longer speaking to each other.

Jamal joined the football team after being against it for so long. Monse has a new group of friends and the picture she was given is behind her new friends on campus. Ruby and Jasmin are dating and Ruby is dressed completely different from what we’ve seen. Oscar left the gang life, has hair, and a baby on the way. Then there’s Cesar.

Cesar looks to be the leader of the Santos and is watching as a new recruit gets jumped in. As sad as this was, it was the perfect way to end the series.

The thing about life (especially in high school) is that people change. You find new interests, start dating, and then there’s the pressure of being a teenager. The entire ensemble had all of that on top of growing up in a rough environment. It was inevitable that they’d drift apart. They all wanted different things out of life. Being thrown into dangerous situations just made things worse.

Ruby and Jamal not speaking was the only shocking part. They were closer to each other than anyone. But, Jasmin and Ruby’s relationship on top of Jamal possibly becoming a popular football player may have caused a rift in their friendship.

Like most of you, I’d like to know what happened to them as well. Was it one singular moment that caused the rift or was it a combination of everything and then some. Regardless, sometimes not knowing is better. We’ve all seen shows that don’t deliver on what we wanted.

The way On My Block ended, the creators will have to make good on the group’s breakup. No matter how it is, will we be satisfied? Probably not. As fans, we can be fickle. Breaking Bad is a perfect example. As amazing as the series was, many people weren’t satisfied with the way the series ended. This could be no different.

The creators of On My Block haven’t given viewers a reason to doubt them and it’s safe to say that their explanation on the events will make sense. However, sometimes it’s good to go out on top. Even if it’s only after three phenomenal seasons.

How much will finding out what happened add to the show? Will the next season have them getting back together after a long breakup? If that happens, will it seem forced? There are so many variables that go into this. The series had a perfect way to end a near-flawless series. Hopefully, season four will be just as satisfying as the previous three seasons.
