There’s a new Tiger King project in the works, but it’s not about Joe Exotic

Netflix is making a follow-up to Tiger King that will look in magicians Siegfried and Roy. It doesn’t appear the docuseries will focus on Joe Exotic or the others from the Netflix documentary.

There’s more Tiger King coming to Netflix, but it’s not exactly what you might think.

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, the Tiger King team, including directors Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaiklin, is working on a “follow-up” that will focus on Siegfried & Roy, the tiger attack that injured Roy Horn, and more.

Roy Horn died from complications with COVID-19, according to the report.

For those unfamiliar, Siegfried and Roy are pair of magicians who use tigers, lions and other big cats in their shows. In 2003, Roy was mauled by a tiger on stage, and the pair never performed together again.

According to the report, the documentary will likely focus on that incident and the fallout.

As the way things look now, Joe Exotic, Jeff Lowe, Carole Baskin, and the rest of the people featured in Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness will not be involved with the follow-up.

We don’t know many details about the series, but we should learn more about the series in the near future.

THR report mentioned the production team behind Tiger King, Goode Films, wanted the follow-up to “act as a higher-minded corrective to both the original seven-episode series as well as comedian Joel McHale’s aftershow special, the latter of which was not produced by the filmmakers.”

That’s very interesting if that’s the direction they go. Clearly, Tiger King was successful because of the tone and the presentation of this incredibly problematic person and activity. This new episode sounds very different.

Instead, this look into what happened during the 2003 show where Roy was mauled by a tiger should have a much different feel and tone.

I’m hoping the creative team is able to accomplish what they’re hoping for in this new documentary. Clearly, there is a lot of interest in documentaries about tigers and other big cats and the type of people who interact with those animals regularly. This documentary will check that box.

I know there are many people that want to know more about Joe Exotic and that part of the story in season 2, and it’s possible we’ll see that down the road as more things develop with those involved with the docuseries.
