Speaking of an entire series streaming on Netflix at the same time, Underworld also enjoys multiple consecutive movies hitting the streamer at the same time. While it’s only the original trilogy and doesn’t include the 2012 and 2016 entries, there’s plenty of Underworld to go around this May. These days, we’re all looking for some good, old-fashioned escapism, and what’s a better escape than an action-horror trilogy about the secret history of vampires and Lycans?

Kate Beckinsale stars in Underworld as Selene, an orphaned vampire works as a trained killer in defense of the vampire clan amid their age-old fight with Lycans. In the first film, Selene works to save mortal doctor Michael Corvin (Scott Speedman) from Lycan leader Lucian (Michael Sheen). Underworld: Evolution finds Selena and Michael tangled in a forbidden romance to the discontent fo their respective clans as they search for a solution to the feud. The prequel, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, centers on Lucian and his ascent into power of the Lycans.

Underworld comes from director Len Wiseman, who also helmed such films as Underworld: Evolution, Live Free or Die Hard and Total Recall. The first three Underworld film have earned low Rotten Tomatoes scores of 31%, 17% and 29% respectively, and all three have reached over $90 million worldwide, with the sequel bringing in over $111 million. Of course, the franchise continued with Awakening and Blood Wars, but it’s unclear what the future holds for Underworld or Beckinsale’s role in the series. For now, check out the first three films at the top of the month.
