How to Get Away with Murder season 6 episode 12 was as dramatic as ever. Here are some of the best moments from this week.

This week’s episode of How to Get Away with Murder was one of the most intense. Annalise was on trial once again, Frank did what Frank does best, and Michaela and Connor tried to undo the harm they might have done with their deal with the FBI. This episode was filled with epic moments, but some stood out over all the others.

1. Death penalty

One of the biggest shockers of this week was that the federal prosecutor put the death penalty on the table in Annalise’s murder case. While Annalise going to jail was always a possibility for what she covered up, no one, including Annalise herself, thought the government would seek the death penalty against her. Luckily, Annalise is Annalise and Tegan is her lawyer and they were able to get the death penalty dropped as the punishment Annalise might face.

2. Xavier

While Xavier Castillo been lurking over everything that’s happened since Nate’s father was murdered and Laurel disappeared, we finally got to see him in person this episode. While tailing FBI agent Pollock, Frank found Xavier and did what Frank does: he kidnapped and tortured him. He wanted to know how Xavier was working with the FBI against Annalise. When he got the information he came for, he left Xavier to Nate.

What no one expected was that after Xavier confessed to killing Nate’s father, Nate killed him. This is Nate’s second murder and…can he stop? Can we have non-murdering Nate back before the series finale??

3. Annalise comes through once again

Tegan might have worked her butt off to ensure Annalise wasn’t faced with the death penalty, it was ultimately Annalise’s ingenuity that made the capital punishment review board take it off the table. Right when it seemed like she was about to lose, Annalise introduced evidence no one expected.

Earlier in the episode, when Michaela and Connor came to talk to her about their deal with the FBI and the FBI’s involvement in Asher’s death, Annalise recorded them. She played that recording for the board and it’s what made them decide against capital punishment. Annalise can always be counted on to pull something out of her hat.

4. Michaela and Connor arrested (again)

But while the recording resulted in something good for Annalise, it had a decidedly negative effect for Michaela and Connor. Right after the board meeting, the FBI showed up on Michaela and Connor’s doorstep to take them in for more questioning.

They broke their deal by talking to Annalise and telling her what they knew, so the FBI came for them. It will be interesting to see what happens to them in the next episode. If nothing else, Oliver will be worrying his pants off!

5. Vivian’s secret

The episode ended with another classic How to Get Away with Murder cliffhanger. Vivian, Gabriel’s mother, came over to Annalise’s place and they began to talk about Hannah, Sam’s sister. Vivian asked if Annalise knew why Hannah hated her so much. It’s clear based on Annalise’s answer that she doesn’t and Vivian’s reply leaves a lot to the imagination.

She says Hannah hates Annalise because of what happened between Hannah and Sam. What does that mean? Did they get into a fight? Were they estranged? Is there something even worse going on? We’ll have to wait for the next episode to find out.
