6. Love Wedding Repeat

Release Year: 2020

Starring: Olivia Munn, Sam Claflin, Freida Pinto, Eleanor Tomlinson, Joel Fry, Allan Mustafa, Jack Farthing, Tim Key

Release Date: Friday, April 10

Once upon a time, romantic comedies were a dime a dozen at the box office. But everyone’s favorite guilty (or not-so-guilty) pleasure genre dried up as the cinematic tides shifted. Little by little, Netflix has started to revive the genre with a slew of fan-favorite hit original films, and this April, the streaming giant keeps the ball rolling with another sure-fire online conversation piece. Love Wedding Repeat is pure rom-com fun and among the month’s best new release movies.

Sam Claflin stars in Love Wedding Repeat as Jack, a most likely lovable but inevitably flawed dude just trying to help give his little sister the wedding day of her dreams. In carrying out this mission, Jack finds himself living out his sister’s wedding day over and over, a la Sliding Doors, as the alternate versions throw new obstacles his way. Jack soon must balance an ex-girlfriend, a potentially potent uninvited guest, a sleeping pill and an unexpected run-in with the one that got away, Dina (Olivia Munn).

Love Wedding Repeat comes from writer-director Dean Craig, who also wrote such films as Caffeine, Death at a Funeral, Moonwalkers and Carrie Pilby. The film promises a throwback romantic comedy feel and a very much-needed happy ending. If you’ve had your favorite go-to arsenal of romantic comedies on repeat for the past month, it’s time to open up your heart and watch list to Love Wedding Repeat. Don’t miss the film’s premiere on April 10.
