If Netflix makes a Tiger King movie or series based on the life of Joe Exotic, The Ranch star Dax Shepard is interested in the lead role.
Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness is the biggest Netflix show in the world right now, and there’s all sorts of speculation about a Joe Exotic movie and if Netflix will make it happen.
If so, Dax Shepard, who recently starred in Netflix’s The Ranch, is interested in playing Joe Exotic if Netflix ever makes a Tiger King feature or series.
Shepard recently tweeted about playing Joe Exotic in the case that Netflix, or another studio, makes a movie about Joe Exotic and his life. The Netflix US Twitter account tweeted back, “im liking what im hearing.”
Tiger King is – how do a put this? – a mockumentary that’s somehow actually real. I don’t know how these people are real or how all these events happened. If it was in a movie, no one would ever believe it, and that’s why Joe Exotic’s story is perfect to become the next Netflix biopic.

Our friends at FanSided suggested Matthew McConnaughey is perfect for the role of Joe Exotic. McConnaughey would, obviously, be great, but I’m more on Team Dax.
This movie needs to happen. It just has to at this point. There’s no way around it; the people want more Tiger King. The show will likely be renewed for a second season.
Unfortunately, there’s probably going to be a long wait until season 2. But, Netflix could get working on a biopic or biographical series.
If it happens, I’m hoping they go more in a comedic direction with a series or feature film. Tiger King is, without a doubt, the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen, so it might make it difficult to parody. There’s a way that could deal with the issues presented in the docuseries respectfully and also make it funny.
According to a report from TV Line, Kate McKinnon is already on the hook to star in a limited series about Carole Baskin, who was more of the main players in the Netflix docuseries. Apparently, the project doesn’t have a network or streaming service attached. Sounds like it would find a good home at Netflix.
We’ll be sure to let you know more about any other Tiger King projects in the works at Netflix.
