Marvel Comics story: The Punisher (2011)

Marvel Comics has given us versions of classic characters. Miles Morales is Spider-Man, Amadeus Cho is the Hulk, and you have X-23 who’s been Wolverine. Who would have thought we’d get a version of the Punisher. Not just in name, but in tragedy as well.

Sgt. Rachel Cole-Alves just got married when everyone at her reception was gunned down. What’s worse is that no one in her party was the target. She was the only one who lived. After she recovered, all Sgt. Cole-Alves wanted to get revenge on the people who ruined her life. She ends up running into Frank Castle. He trains her to do what he does; properly down criminals without casualties.

It’s a shame that Marvel hasn’t done more with her. We’ve seen her in Matthew Rosenberg’s Punisher run in 2019, but not much before that. Bring this story to life gives you her traumatic origin story with an added bonus. Punisher takes on the Avengers. This may seem like a very one-sided fight (it was on a couple of occasions), but Punisher did manage to steal Iron Man’s armor. There are geniuses who can’t say that.

More importantly, this can be the beginning of Rachel Cole-Alves story. Disney could tell stories that weren’t told in the comics. Disney may have to keep the PG-13 rating, but the right creative team can make this work.
