Warner Bros. TV has shut down production on Lucifer season 5 because of the coronavirus, along with The Flash season 6.

Lucifer is the latest Netflix original series to see production postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to a report from TV Line, production on Lucifer season 5 has been shut down “until further notice” by Warner Bros. TV.

The production company produces the Netflix original series, along with The Flash and other major shows. The TV Line report also shared The Flash has halted production, as well.

Lucifer season 5 was almost finished filming, according to the report. We’ve been following along with production over the last few months, and it’s clear that a majority of the fifth season has been filmed.

The new season will also be split into two parts, consisting of eight episodes each. The first half the season has already completed production, and we’re still expecting to see those first eight episodes sometime this spring. It’s unclear, at the time of publishing, if those episodes will be affected by this production shut down.

Last year, Netflix announced Lucifer season 5 was going to be the final season of the series. Fortunately, it looks like that won’t be the case. In the last few weeks, there have been many rumors and reports about Netflix renewing Lucifer for season 6.

Showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson signed deals to come back for season 6 if Netflix renews the series. Tom Ellis, the star of the series, and his reps came to an agreement to return if Netflix orders another season. And, right now, that still looks to be happening.

It’s unclear what the future looks like for the series beyond season 6. The next season would likely consist of 10-13 episodes, according to TV Line.

Lucifer is the third Netflix original series to delay production in response to the pandemic. Russian Doll and Grace and Frankie have also delayed filming. It’s unknown when the shows will resume filming the new seasons.
