Not many people who haven’t watch GLOW on Netflix know that it stands for Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling! But if you are new to the series, don’t let that sweet name fool you, GLOW is as packed with drama as it is with action.
Whether they are failed actresses or lack in a Hollywood talent, the team of GLOW follows a group of misfits who have, for the most part, failed at everything else so wrestling seems to be their final resort. This isn’t to say they don’t love and appreciate the sport, of course. Viewers quickly become invested in these underdogs and their stories, particularly Alison Brie and Betty Gilpin’s characters.
Despite the tough exterior and act that they put on, the series is sweet, unexpectedly funny, and has just enough drama to keep things interesting. The series takes place in Los Angeles in the year 1985, the story mostly follows Ruth Wilder (Brie), who recently joined GLOW. Set in her ways, Ruth often clashes with GLOW’s director Sam Sylvia (Marc Maron). The lives of others are also followed.
Even those who are not fans of wrestling in real life will find themselves cheering for these girls and completely invested in their stories. They may fight and clash, but at the center of it all is a strong bond that’s tough to break.
Watch the three seasons streaming now on Netflix, the fourth and final season is expected to arrive later this year. Catch up before it premieres.
