28. The Witcher
The Witcher on Netflix is quite the ride! It stars Henry Cavill, Freya Allan, Eamon Farren, and others. The team is a blast to see as their talents blend well to deliver fun, and often intense, performances.
Unlike most fantasy projects such as Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones, The Witcher doesn’t take itself too seriously. It presents violent scenes and dark elements, and is often more fantasy than LoR and GoT, but it sticks to entertainment being the main focus. The Witcher is here for audiences to love and become engage in, it’s not here to outsmart us or have viewers guessing the character’s every move.
Make no mistake, however, The Witcher is still a very clever fantasy series with many tricks up its sleeve and surprises for us all. While it won’t leave you thinking about the plot hours after watching, the CGI and sequences are mind-blowing. This is another winner for Netflix and we can’t wait to watch season 2!
The Witcher introduces a few stories as it sets its main characters in place during season 1, but it mostly focuses on the Witcher’s (Cavill) journey. He is a hunter-for-hire who takes on jobs, but eventually becomes interested in pursuing a certain mystery. He is joined by Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra), a sorceress.
There will be magic, dragons, and more magic. But also a twisted romance! The Witcher has it all if fantasy is your thing. I recommend this one as a week-long binge. Don’t consume it all at once, but also don’t take too long to where the magic wears out.
