St. Patrick’s Day will be a big one for The CW fans on Netflix. While everyone else will be drinking green beer or whatever it is most people do to ring in the holiday, CW loyals will be heading straight to the streaming giant to add Black Lightning and All American to their watch lists. The first series to bow out for the season on the network, they arrive for streaming one week after their finales. The wait for the next seasons might be long, but since we’re lucky (St. Paddy’s Day pun intended), the wait to rewatch every current episode won’t be much longer.
Inspired by the life of American football player Spencer Paysinger, All American stars Daniel Ezra as Spencer James, a high school student with an immense talent for football. When he’s recruited to leave Crenshaw in South Los Angeles to play for a privileged school in Beverly Hills, Spencer’s in for much more than a culture shock. In the second season, continues to explore the drama on and off the football field and Spencer makes a big decision to leave or further assimilate into this new world. Since the season hasn’t ended yet, there’s no telling what could still unfold.
Last year, All American benefited from the Netflix boost, grabbing a loyal audience from new fans that discovered the series via the streaming service. For most of the second season, ratings were higher or on par with those of the first season, again proving the positive influence of streaming and good scheduling. Before watching or rewatching the second season’s 16 episodes, be sure to catch up with the 16 episodes of season 1. And don’t worry about any cliffhangers. The CW has already renewed the series for a third season. Get into the latest episodes when they debut on March 17.
