7. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (movie)
Premiere date: Aug. 17, 2018
What To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is about: When Lara Jean (Lana Condor) has a crush that is too intense, she writes them a letter. Lara Jean never intends on giving her crush this letter, though, it’s just to write down her feelings, think of it as therapeutic. Lara Jean is also way too shy to even dare expressing how she may feel, but leave that to her meddling younger sister.
When Lara Jean’s letters are mailed out to various recipients, Lara Jean wants the earth to swallow her. Instead, she’ll have to face all her crushes coming to her to ask for an explanation about the letter they have received.
Why you need to watch this: No romantic comedy on Netflix tops the genuinely sweet teen romcom To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. The sequel to the movie recently premiered on Netflix, and while it’s a worthy follow-up, it doesn’t match the innocence or first-love jitters To All the Boys delivers.
What fans love most about To All the Boys, is that it charms without having to be too smart. To All the Boys isn’t trying to outsmart anyone, it’s actually rather predictable, but it’s all about heart. This may seem obvious, but if you think about it, a lot of romcoms lack heart and try to substitute it with comedy or big twist. Instead, To All the Boys puts everything aside to focus on a heartfelt love story. And if you don’t fall in love with Lara Jean’s story, you need to check your pulse.
