48. 6 Balloons (movie)

Premiere date: April 6, 2018

What 6 Balloons is about: The Netflix movie follows siblings Katie (Abbi Jacobson) and Seth (Dave Franco). While Katie is responsible and has little time for fun, Seth continues to fail everyone around him due to drug addiction. Katie loves her brother dearly, but she is tired of picking up the pieces. But a series of events finds them on a life-or-death mission to get Seth to detox before it’s too late.

Why you need to watch this: I believe I speak for us all when I say that fans are used to seeing comedic actors Dave Franco and Abbi Jacobson goofing off and having a good time in front of cameras. And, as you all know, when an actor who fits best in the comedy genre makes a jump to dramatic material, the result can be a mixed bag.

Not just anyone can bounce into this genre and succeed, but Franco and Jacobson do so flawlessly in roles that make them almost unrecognizable. Don’t get me wrong, the movie is a bit rough around the edges, but it falls together greatly and draws audiences.

You should watch 6 Balloons if you are surfing Netflix in search of something a little different. This movie will hit you in the feels, especially if you can connect or relate to dealing with drug addiction — whether personally or because of a loved one. Dave Franco’s performance, in particular, leaves a big impact as we watch him struggle with staying clean and detoxing.
