20. One Day at a Time (TV series)
Premiere date: Jan. 6, 2017
What One Day at a Time is about: The Netflix series follows a Cuban-American family showcasing real-life issues we face as a community today. Some of these include being a single parent, discrimination and mental illness. Each character is going through something personal and how genuine they are about their issues will connect with audiences.
Why you need to watch this: One Day at a Time has always been an underrated gem at Netflix, but you have probably heard about it. The sitcom has made headlines many times more than once due to fears of it being canceled by the streaming service.
Fans fought hard for it the first time around and when their efforts worked, they didn’t think they would have to go through that again. Unfortunately, numbers continued to be low for the series, so off to the chopping block it went again! There was no turning back after season 3, Netflix was done with One Day at a Time.
We’re not sure why One Day at a Time struggled so much with audiences. At Rotten Tomatoes, the sitcom has a 98% fresh score with critics and 96% with viewers.
Luckily, if you are a fan of the sitcom, you can continue your watch at Pop, the network that picked up the sitcom after Netflix gave it the boot. This is the first time a canceled series from Netflix is rescued by another network. This should say something! See what all the hype is about (and how wrong Netflix was for cutting it from their lineup) and watch season 1 through 3 on Netflix. Season 4 premiere on Pop on March 24, 2020.
