Friends is leaving Netflix on New Year’s Eve 2019. You have less than 24 hours to watch the hit series on the streaming service.
As soon as the clock strikes midnight PT on New Year’s Eve, Friends will no longer be available to stream on Netflix in the United States. If you live outside of the US and the hit comedy series is available to stream where you live, you can still watch the series on Netflix.
Friends has been on Netflix since the beginning of 2015, and since its arrival on Netflix, the show has seen an increase in popularity worldwide. According to TV Time, Friends was the most-streamed show this year behind the new Netflix original sensation Lucifer, which ran for three seasons on Fox before Netflix picked up the show for a fourth season.
It’s remarkable that Friends remains this popular after all these years. The series finale aired in 2004, so it’s more than 15 years old!
Friends leaving Netflix shouldn’t be news to many fans at this point. We’ve known for months that the series was leaving the streaming service at the end of the year. Warner Media paid more than $400 million for the rights to the series for five years to keep the series away from Netflix.
I’m sure mega-fans are wondering where they can stream the series after it leaves Netflix. In the short-term, Friends will not be streaming anywhere. It will be added to HBO Max when the streaming service launches sometime this spring. Unless you own the series on DVD or watch on cable, you won’t be able to watch this series until HBO Max launches.
Depending on how things go at HBO Max, there’s a chance we could see this series on Netflix in 2025. It all depends on how the streaming service gets, how important it is to keep the series, and if Netflix wants to bring it back. For the right price, anything is possible.
We’re sorry to break this news to you. Hopefully, you have time to watch a few more episodes of the series before it leaves Netflix!
