A list of five bold predictions for The Mandalorian season 2, which is coming to Disney Plus in the fall of 2020. Spoilers ahead for The Mandalorian season 1 finale.

Battles with stormtroopers, a jet pack coming in handy and a droid ending up saving the day — that and more is how Disney Plus’s The Mandalorian ended its first season.

The final scene of season 1 of the Star Wars, in which Moff Gideon emerges from his TIE fighter with the Darksaber, reveals an obvious jumping-off point for the future of the show. There are other things that are not as clear.

With the final episode of Season 1 being released recently and emerging plot points that allude to more in the series, we shared five guesses about where the show might go next.

1. Baby Yoda will get less baby

The Child, or the foundling, or Baby Yoda — depending on who you ask — was the crux of The Mandalorian’s first season. Throughout the show, we’ve seen the Child use the force to get Mando and others out of tough situations, and we’ve seen that the little creature still has a long way to go before it’s a grown and fully functioning version of its species.

My guess is that Baby Yoda will likely mature a bit in upcoming episodes of the show. Maybe that means being more involved in fighting scenes or maybe he even starts saying words and stringing sentences together. There’s a lot of room for that character to grow and show the true depths of its powers as the show progresses.

2. More backstory, which likely means more flashbacks

Chapter Six of The Mandalorian provided much-needed insight into Mando’s past.

Mando met up with an old friend in Ranzar Malk, who used to run with Mando in a bounty hunter crew. Malk isn’t an active participant in the heists these days, but he’s still very much in the game, and he is the leader and organizer of the new mercenary group that Mando briefly joins up with in the sixth episode.

As Mando talks to Malk and Xi’an, a mercenary who used to work with Mando and still teams up with Malk for jobs, the audience can glean that the Mandalorian has already lived a full life of committing crimes even before the timeline of the show began.

Asked about Mando’s warrior credentials, Xi’an refers to a job on Alzoc III, but doesn’t go into any detail. It’d be interesting to see Mando’s time in a crew developed more as a plotline. The show does not shy away from flashbacks, like the time it showed how IG-11 was reprogrammed to be a nurse droid and Mando’s war-stricken childhood, so maybe a look back at Mando in his old group is on the docket for Season 2.

3. We might actually find out why Mando hates droids so much

A running gag in the show so far has been Mando’s hatred and general distrust of basically every droid.

Mando appeared sad when IG-11 sacrificed himself for the good of the group, but other than that, he’s been strongly against every droid he comes across. Maybe IG-11 helped Mando see that not all droids are bad, but the fact that he hates them so much in the first place definitely raises some questions.

Will we see an origin story for when Mando’s distrust of robots first started, or will the evidence that droids can’t always be trusted continue to pile up until it’s too damning to deny? It’s hard to say, and it might also just be a recurring joke in the series that’s never explained.

4. Mando doing cool jetpack things

He’s already brought a TIE fighter to the ground with help from his newly acquired jetpack, but Mando has probably just scratched the surface of what he can do with the technology.

We saw a Mandalorian on a jetpack flying by Mando’s ship, to which Mando said to himself: “I gotta get one of those.”

Well, now that he has one, I’m sure it will be easier to get around when he’s off his ship. The jetpack can serve as a good substitute for his ship, when he doesn’t want to draw as much attention and needs something smaller for transportation. Also, it clearly is an asset fighting against airborne adversaries, so I’m sure he’ll continue to use it that way, too.

5. Someone else who knows the force will make an appearance

So far, we’ve only known Baby Yoda to use the force in the show, but when Mando comes across The Armorer in episode 8 of the series, she tells Mando that he should reunite the foundling with its own kind. That bodes well for Mando coming across Jedi in the future, which is complicated, considering Mandalore The Great used to fight with Jedi.

The Jedi might not be too kind towards a Mandalorian, or they might trust Mando due to his ability to keep the Child safe. Either way, it seems likely that Baby Yoda isn’t the only one left who knows the force, and that Mando will have to face that fact as the show continues.
