The holiday break means there’s extra time to catch up on your favorite shows or start new ones. Whether you’re watching alone, with family or friends, there’s plenty of options to choose from. So here’s 5 shows to watch on Netflix over the holidays.

For most people, the Christmas holiday means an extended time off. And for all those TV-lovers out there, the less than two weeks left of the holiday season means it’s time to binge-watch your favorite shows on Netflix or finally start the new ones you’ve had saved on your “Watch Later” list for so long.

The holidays are also a time to spend with family, friends, and loved ones. And what better way to do that then to stream a favorite (or new) show?

Whether it’s revisiting your favorite characters or falling in love with new ones, here’s a list of shows that are great to watch alone or with a group of your favorite people. So sit back, relax and let the Netflix binge-watch begin!

1. With your family: Once Upon a Time

My all-time favorite show is Once Upon a Time, and one of my favorite things about it is that I was able to watch it with my sisters. Every week, we looked forward to the next episode and sat down to tune in.

Over the years, I’ve heard from many that it’s a show they enjoy watching as a family, which is one reason it’s so special.  This magical show may be about fairy tales, but the lessons you learn and the enjoyment you take away are real.

No matter how old we are, fairy tales are something everyone grows up with and you can’t help but feel nostalgic when they come up. Once Upon a Time gives you that, but with a modern twist that keeps you hooked (pun intended). The idea was so new at the time and I still haven’t seen a show quite like it.

There are two big takeaways: first, there is no clear “hero” or “villain” category. Everyone deserves a second chance if they try to become a better person and there’s plenty of redemption arcs in Once Upon a Time. And second, Emma Swan really is one of the best female characters on TV and has become a role model for young girls and women, which is so refreshing to see in the media. She started off so closed off then slowly opened up to her son, Henry, her parents, Snow and Charming and True Love, Killian.

There are seven seasons of Once Upon a Time.  With all those vacation days, there’s plenty of time to stream the whole series!
