Towards the midway point of Marvel’s Runaways season three, Morgan le Fay reveals she has the Darkhold in her possession. How did this come to be?

One of the biggest questions we had after watching the third season of Marvel’s Runaways was how Morgan le Fay (Elizabeth Hurley) got her hands on the Darkhold. The book was taken to Hell by Robbie Reyes (Gabriel Luna) in the fifth season of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, so Morgan having it in her possession was quite the surprise.

Reasonably speaking, dimension-hopping probably forced Robbie Reyes to leave the book of spells behind in what he believed to be a safe place. He ventured into the Hell Dimension with it and the realm is presumably riddled with monsters who’d kill to claim the Darkhold for themselves. Therefore, it goes to reason that Reyes hid the book in a different dimension.

Unfortunately, Morgan le Fay found her way to it somehow. We don’t know how she managed to do so, but it’s clear Morgan has some very close ties with the book. At one point, she even claims the Darkhold is a part of her. Could this be an allusion to her prior history with the book? A history that involves medieval characters like Chthon and the Darkholders.

Another possible explanation for Morgan reclaiming the Darkhold is she battled Robbie Reyes for it. There was no mention of a fight in season three of Marvel’s Runaways, though it is possible that Reyes’ adventures on the canceled Hulu series would’ve depicted his battle with Morgan le Fay in its’ entirety.

Come to think of it, Morgan le Fay could’ve served as an adequate villain for the Spirit of Vengeance to contend with. Some fans probably assumed Eli Morrow (Jose Zuniga) would return as the antithesis, but a sorceress who travels between dimensions sounds much more compelling.

The last and probably most believable explanation is that the writers on Marvel’s Runaways didn’t take into account that Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD had used the Darkhold before. Since the connective lines between these separate Marvel TV shows have never been officially established, there could be two different versions of the Darkhold.

Whatever the case is, the Darkhold is an artifact that’s seemingly connected Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, Marvel’s Runaways, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe together. We mentioned before that the connections are minimal at best, but the Darkhold has touched every corner of the universe, and its’ presence has us thinking a bigger plan for the book of spells is in the works. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness isn’t that far off from now either.
