Netflix scores 34 Golden Globes nominations
By Bryce Olin
Netflix scored the most Golden Globes nominations for the 2019 awards. The streaming network racked up 34 nominations for Marriage Story, The Irishman and more!
Netflix was nominated for more Golden Globes than any other network!
The 2019 Golden Globes nominees were announced on Monday morning, and the streaming network scored 34 nominations across film and TV. Most notably, on the film side, the streaming network was nominated for The Irishman, Marriage Story, and The Two Popes. All three of those original movies could be in play for the Oscars in 2020.
Overall, Netflix was nominated for six Golden Globes for Marriage Story, including Best Drama. Scarlett Johansson, Adam Driver, and Laura Dern were nominated in their respective acting categories. Noah Baumbach, who was snubbed in the directing category, was nominated for the award for Best Screenplay.
The Irishman, on the other hand, was nominated for five Golden Globes, including Best Drama, Best Director (Martin Scorsese), Best Screenplay, along with acting noms for Al Pacino and Joe Pesci. Robert De Niro was not nominated.
On the TV side, Netflix’s big nominee was Unbelievable, which was nominated for four Golden Globes, including Best Limited Series, Best Actress (Kaitlyn Dever and Merritt Wever), and Best Supporting Actress (Toni Collette).
The Crown also scored several nominations for Best TV Drama, as well as a bunch of acting awards for Olivia Colman, Tobias Menzies, and Helena Bonham Carter.
The Kominsky Method and The Politician were also nominated in multiple categories.

While it’s great for the nominees, there are some major question marks about these nominations. I have no idea how The Morning Show, the Apple TV original series, was nominated while Stranger Things, Game of Thrones and other big shows were left out.
Stranger Things was not nominated for any Golden Globes, which seems quite ridiculous, considering it was likely the second most popular show in the world in 2019 following Game of Thrones.
It should also be noted that When They See Us directed by Ava DuVernay, one of Netflix’s biggest shows of the year and one of the best shows I’ve ever seen, was completely shut out. The series received no nominations. And, I think that’s about all you need to know about the awards show this year.
The winners will be announced on Sunday, Jan. 5. at 8 p.m. on NBC. Ricky Gervais, who has a ton of his content on Netflix, will host the awards show.
