One kind of film that Disney has become known for is the inspirational sports film. There’s something about watching an underdog team come together to defy the odds and achieve victory. A number of these films haven’t yet hit Disney+, but there are even more already streaming.

From Miracle to Ice Princess, there’s a sports film to inspire every sports fan. But one of the most highly regarded and beloved sports films, Remember the Titans, should sneak to the top of your watch list.

Based on the true story of high school football coach Herman Boone, Remember the Titans stars Denzel Washington as Boone, who in 1971 is hired to coach the football team of the integrated T. C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia. Like in most American towns, football is a way of life, and Boone’s attempts to integrate the football team creates tension within the team and throughout its fervent fandom. Boone doesn’t give up on his team or the sport they love, and they must all come together to defeat the racial differences that divide but should unite their team.

Remember the Titans comes from director Boaz Yakin, who also directed such films as Uptown Girls, Safe and Max. The film holds a 73% on Rotten Tomatoes and topped out at the box office with a worldwide gross of over $136 million. Remember the Titans lived on through re-airings on television throughout the 2000s and remains heralded as one of the best football movies of all time. It’s both an important watch and a necessary throwback that’s among the first round of movies available to stream on Disney+, to soon be joined by many other sports titles.
