The Crown season 4: Release date and what happens next

When will The Crown season 4 be added to Netflix? What will happen in the new season? We cover all that and more!

The Crown season 3 premiered on Netflix in November. After fans around the world had time to watch the new season starring Olivia Colman, Helena Bonham Carter, and Tobias Menzies, fans want to know when the new season of the Netflix original series will be released.

Well, we have some good news there. The Crown has already been renewed for season 4! It’s already happening, and you won’t have to wait too long to watch the new season of the series on Netflix.

Release Date

There’s a really good chance we’ll see The Crown season 4 in November or December 2020. There was, of course, the two-year gap between seasons 2 and 3, but that won’t happen again between seasons 3 and 4.

The first and third season premiered in November of their respective years, while season 2 premiered in December. We’re expecting to see a similar release date for season 4.

According to a report from Yahoo, production on season 4 started in August 2019, so there’s more than enough time to get the new season filmed, edited, promoted and released on Netflix around the world.

December 2020, possibly around Christmas time, would be the perfect time to roll out season 4.

If not Christmas, I’d look to Thanksgiving 2020 for a possible release date. Netflix seems to like Thanksgiving for The Crown. It’s been released just before Thanksgiving twice and one week after Thanksgiving once. I wouldn’t rule out a Thanksgiving release date for The Crown season 4.

Right now, expect to see the new season in late 2020. We’ll be sure to update you if anything changes or Netflix makes any announcements regarding season 4!

What Happens Next

The third season of The Crown ended with Queen Elizabeth II celebrating her Silver Jubilee in 1977.

We’re expecting the new season to begin in the late ’70s close to when season 3 ended. The new season will likely move into the 1980s, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The main cast from season 3 will likely be back for season 4, including Olivia Colman, Helena Bonham Carter, and Tobias Menzies.

We’ll be meeting Princess Diana in the new season. Emma Corrin will play Princess Diana next season, and the show will cover the beginning of her relationship with Prince Charles. Diana and Charles married in 1981.

THR is also reporting the new season will introduce Margaret Thatcher. Gillian Anderson will play Thatcher in season 4. It’s as perfect of a casting choice as we’ve seen in the show so far. She’s going to be awesome in the new season. The new season will likely focus on Thatcher’s relationship with the Queen and vice versa.

Of course, the show will be built around many of the important events involving the royal family and country during the time period.

In the new season, we’ll likely see Margaret Thatcher become England’s first female Prime Minister in 1979. Later that year, the IRA killed the Queen’s cousin, Lord Louis Mountbatten. In the early ’80s, there was also civil unrest with high unemployment in the country more attacks from the IRA.

If the season continues through the mid-’80s, we’ll likely see how the privatization of industry affects the morale of the country and its leaders.

We could also meet Ronald Reagan in the new season. He visited England in the early ’80s and stayed with the family at Windsor Castle.

That’s all for now. We don’t want to spoil anything from The Crown season 4! Stay tuned for more news about the new season of the series.
