Stranger Things 3 star Maya Hawke recently shared some of her favorite scenes from the recent season and talked about her parents’ influence on her acting career.
Actress and singer/songwriter Maya Hawke recently had her breakout acting role as Robin Buckley in Stranger Things 3 and quickly became a fan-favorite character from the Netflix original’s third season.
Robin was introduced as Steve Harrington’s (Joe Keery) co-worker at Scoops Ahoy ice cream shop and their friendship was probably one of the best things of season 3 in my opinion! From becoming the show’s first openly gay character to solving mysteries and helping save Hawkins to calling Steve a dingus, Robin has given fans so many memorable moments in Stranger Things 3.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hawke shared some of her favorite moments from Stranger Things 3, one of which was Robin’s coming out scene. She shared that it was one of the most “exhilarating moments” for her.
She also shared this bigger picture view on the scene, via EW:
"It’s a family show that is multinational and bipartisan. People like it in the red states and in the blue states. It’s an important thing when shows that have that wide a reach make an effort to introduce different kinds of people into their lens."
This moment was one of my favorite parts of Stranger Things 3 and even the series as a whole. Hawke has shared before that Robin and Steve were originally going to end up as a couple, and the decision to change Robin’s character arc came after some discussions during filming. I think this ended up being such a great idea for the show and the fact that Maya Hawke remembers it so fondly and is talking openly about its impact is proof that it was a powerful moment.
Another one of Hawke’s favorite moments from the season was when Robin and Steve were tied up and drugged by the Russians at their base under the Starcourt Mall. I’d have to say this was one moment from the new season that never fails to make me laugh. The pair’s interactions with each other and the Russian guards were hilarious!
Being the daughter of acting stars Uma Thurman and actor Ethan Hawke, Maya Hawke told Entertainment Weekly that acting was just in her genes and that it was meant to be. She shared:
"My parents are very loving and intuitive and talented people, and eventually it became clear, not just to me, but to them that was what I was supposed to do. So, there wasn’t much negotiating with me at that point."
I think I can speak for most Stranger Things fans by saying that Robin’s addition to the show made the third season even more hilarious, memorable, and heartfelt. It makes me even more excited to see Robin in Stranger Things 4 and even the other acting adventures we can see from Maya Hawke in the future!
